We decided to join some friends on a last minute camping trip to Polis, but we had no equipment. Lucky for us it only took half an hour at SUPER HOME CENTRE in Paphos! 42.30 Euro later we were the proud owners off:
2 man tent
double air bed
electric air pump
2 fold up chairs
At 19:45 we set off from Yersokipou towards Polis. After 40mins of winding scenic roads we enter the Polis campsite, the best of day light gone. After finding a secluded spot we start setting up camp. It doesn't take us long to find out that we haven't bought sufficient lighting! We had 2 candles and a very effective LED key chain light for its size but with a little help from the car's head lights, it only takes us half an hour to set up camp.
As soon as the electric air pump connected to the car lighter has done it's job we are delighted to find out the double air bed fits perfectly into the two man tent. A feeling of overwhelming peace and being at one with nature sets in.
While listening to gentle sounds of the waves brushing along the beach a short distance away and a small fire gently blazing we thoroughly enjoy a selection of Cypriot dips and lovely fresh bread topped with sesame seeds, purchased form Konstandinides bakery in Yeroskipou.
We wake up at around 08:30 feeling revitalized after falling asleep to the gentle sounds of nature. It is time for a morning swim and a bit of snorkeling as we undertake the effortless trek of 50meters or so to the beach. Now, time to satisfy our appetite so we take a 5min drive into Polis town square. There are loads of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops to meander through or what we did - enjoy a lovely breakfast topped with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. After breakfast, we head back to the campsite for some serious chill time under the shade of the eucalyptus trees.
A walk along the pebbled coast line picking up shells and unusual pebbles, proved to be so relaxing and enjoyable! For lunch we enjoyed more traditional Cypriot dips, fresh olives and fresh baked bread. Taking just 20mins to pack up we reward ourselves with an ice-cream from the beach bar, and watch the sunset!
We reluctantly get into the car and make our way back to Paphos and home to Yeroskipou. What an effortless, inexpensive and enjoyable spur of the moment camping trip!
