A guitar soloist and a composer with a worldwide artistic presence, Smaro Grigoriadou attempts a redefinition of the sound and technique of classical guitar and transcriptions, through the innovative approach "Reinventing the Guitar", which she introduced in 2009 using instruments, strings, string combinations and construction applications of Aesthetic Kertsopoulos. Her solistic and pedagogical action has received an enthusiastic global welcome. As American critic Raymond Tuttle said, "... her desire to find a new way of expression and to re-blast the music without innovation becoming an end in itself, refers to musicians like Horowitz, Gould, Landowska." (Fanfare, Nov / Dec 2012.)
She studied guitar in Athens and London (as a fellow of the Royal College of Music) with Giorgos Kertsopoulos, Paul Galbraith, Roberto Aussel, Jesus Castro-Balbi, Carlos Bonnel, musical composition with Giorgos Sioras, Theodoros Antoniou, Dinos Konstantinidis and musical interpretation with George Hatziniko.

​She also studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens. She appeared as a soloist or in collaboration with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Europe, Russia, Australia, USA. As a composer she studies the soundness of ancient drama and the timeless tradition, shaping its synthetic idiom on the abstraction, primacy, energy rotation, microphone. She has been awarded numerous International Performance and Symposium awards with the recent "Gina Bachauer International Association Soloist Prize 2013". Her works have been extensively presented by ALEA III (Boston), Octandre (Bologna), Helsinki Chamber Ensemble, Open Source Guitars (Trossingen) and others. Her works have been commissioned by organizations such as the Biennale Rome, the Trossingen University of Music, the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens, and others. He teaches guitar seminars and music interactive workshops around the world titled "CONFERENCE INTERPRETATION - OPERATIONAL TECHNIQUE". She is a member of the Union of Greek Composers. His three guitar albums from the US record company DELOS (Reinventing guitar, Volumes I and II, El Aleph) were hailed as "Changes in the History of Guitar History" (Tamvakos, Jazz & Jazz, Oct. 2009

Every Thursday 
STROLLING AROUND PAFOS TOWN 
CENTRE (KTIMA)

To get visitors acquainted with 
Pafos Town Centre (Ktima), which is the 
newest part of the city of Pafos as 
opposed to New Pafos, the ancient Hellenistic and Roman Capital of Cyprus, 
the Paphos municipality would like to 
invite everyone to visit the Paphos Town Centre (Ktima) and get to know this part of Paphos, incorrectly considered as merely a 
shopping area. 
The walking tour Strolling around Paphos 
Town Centre (Ktima) aims to provide an 
overall picture of Pafos and how  Pafos town Centre    evolved and developed 
from the late Byzantine and Medieval times to what as it was called until recently 
Κtima. The Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) is associated with the local everyday life of 
the population. For the Pafians though, Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) has so much more to it…. Through historic references, linked with some very important historic phases including Medieval, Ottoman, British and modern times; one will ‘walk’ into the past but will also get better acquainted with the commercial centre of Pafos. 
The walk is led by a licensed CTO qualified guide. It lasts about two and a halfhours, including  a half-hour break for refreshments.

Tsiknopempti or Grilling day or Meat Day

If you know Cypriots then you know how much they love their meat and their grills.  So, this day is a very popular day each year.  Usually on Thursdays, this year it was on March 7th was Tsiknopempti - the Thursday during Carnival period which marks the beginning of the last week that Greek Orthodox can eat meat. Eating meat is a must on this day and this is what most of Cypriots are cooking and eating today.

The word tsikna comes from the word of the smell of cooked meat. In Cyprus it's called "sikoses" from the Greek verb "sikono" means "I am rising".
