The Cyprus government has 12 million Euros set aside to promote winter tourism in Cyprus to bring it back to the level of 2001 which was the best year for winter tourism on the island. 
All eyes and hearts and hopes of Cyprus will be on Evdokia Kadi in the Eurovision song contest unfortunately Russia took the prize. 
The price of electricity in Cyprus will increase again this summer. The cost hike in international crude oil prices and Heavy Fuel Oil are the cause.  This will reflect in price increases of most goods and services, including food and petrol.
Kyriacos Vassiliou is the new English school chairman and for the first time the new board of management includes a Turkish Cypriot- Izet Izcan- a resident of the occupied area
The University of Cyprus has announced that they have announced openings for 35 Turkish Cypriot students for the coming year.

Limassol is getting ready for an overhaul costing 24 million Euro. 85% will be from EU funds, The work is due for completion by 2011.

As Easter approaches police are threatening zero tolerance in a bid to keep Easter bonfires under control.
On May 1, Cypriots will be offered free health checks at local pharmacies to measure sugar levels & blood pressure, a programme initiated by the Cyprus Chemists Association.   
Minimum wage up to 789 Euro per month for lowest employment wage earners that are not protected or covered by a trade union. On July 1st, guardsmen and care providers will also get an increase.

Top judges call for total smoking ban. 650 people a year die as a result of smoking. Since the current laws are not strictly enforced the only solution is a complete ban.
☼  Due to severe water shortages, water has been cut in most homes around Cyprus including the issuance of hefty fines for washing cars, cleaning verandas or pavements and filling pools. Water must only be used for domestic purposes.

WEEK OF March 31st THROUGH April 6th 2008

 ☼  The Paphos government and the Cyprus Tourism Organization anounced the renovation and upgrading of the Paphos and Latchi harbours.
 ☼  Limassol Marina - The contracts were signed for the construction of the Limassol marina with work due to begin later this year and completion in 3 years. The projected cost is EURO 170 Billion.
  Cyprus industrial business must cut their CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 and the whole island must increase it's renewable energy usage up to 13%.
