☼ Top judges call for total smoking ban. 650 people a year die as a result of smoking. Since the current laws are not strictly enforced the only solution is a complete ban.
☼  Due to severe water shortages, water has been cut in most homes around Cyprus including the issuance of hefty fines for washing cars, cleaning verandas or pavements and filling pools. Water must only be used for domestic purposes.

WEEK OF March 31st THROUGH April 6th 2008
 ☼ Cypriots were able to walk freely across the Ledra street without any barricades for the first time in decades.
 ☼ Water shortages and restrictions will not effect hotels and disturb the tourist industry

 ☼ Andri Tsiouti, a Cypriot High School student won the Young Translators contest. A student from each of  the 27 EU member states has one winner. The contest supports multilingualism.
  ☼ Schools are closed on Wednesday, 13th to mark the Feast of the Three Hierarchs. 
 ☼ Melios Michael, is one of a select number of students to win a £2,000 scholarship to University of Reading based on academic achievement.

 ☼  The Paphos government and the Cyprus Tourism Organization anounced the renovation and upgrading of the Paphos and Latchi harbours.
 ☼  Limassol Marina - The contracts were signed for the construction of the Limassol marina with work due to begin later this year and completion in 3 years. The projected cost is EURO 170 Billion.
  ☼ Cyprus industrial business must cut their CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 and the whole island must increase it's renewable energy usage up to 13%. 
 ☼ The Donkey Sanctuary will be moving from the Vouni location to a undetermined site in the Limassol District. There are 123 donkeys in this sanctuary.
